Authors

Publish a book

You have a manuscript and want to see it become a book. At SUSU, two paths are open to you: being represented by the literary agency, or joining, in time, the publishing house.

Before you start

One book, two ways to support it

The agency champions your text with publishers, in Africa, in France and elsewhere. The publishing house, still under construction, will itself publish a small pilot collection. Both share the same standards: serving African and Afro-diasporic voices, and helping them travel.

Two paths

Which path for your book?

Read about both ways in, then choose the one that fits your project.

Path 01 · Literary agency

Be represented

We take your manuscript to publishing houses and look after your rights, from signing the contract to the life of the book.

  • Who it is for

Authors with a finished or well-advanced manuscript — novel, short stories, narrative essay, non-fiction — who are looking for a publisher, or for an expert view on an offer they have received.

  • What we do

Preparing the submission package, finding French- and English-language publishers, negotiating contracts, selling rights (translation, audio, adaptation), career follow-up.

Path 02 · Publishing house · under construction

Be published by SUSU

An independent house that publishes slowly: a few chosen titles, supported over time, within a pilot collection.

  • Who it is for

Authors from Africa and its diasporas whose text fits our editorial line, and who accept the long timeframe of a house that is still being born.

  • What we do

In-depth editorial work, careful art direction, print and digital books, distribution to readers in Africa, in the diasporas and internationally.

Quick guide

Not sure?

Four simple questions to know where to start. Still unsure? Write to us: we will point you in the right direction, with no commitment.

Which path should I choose?

  1. Is your manuscript finished?

Not yet → start with SUSU LAB, to write and be read. Yes → both paths are open to you.

  2. Are you aiming for several publishers, several countries?

Yes → the agency, which approaches French- and English-language houses on your behalf.

  3. Do you have a contract or rights to defend?

An offer to negotiate, a translation, an adaptation → the agency.

  4. Do you dream of a book published by SUSU?

If your text fits our line and the long timeframe does not put you off → the publishing house.
