To build an independent publishing house that discovers, supports and promotes African and Afro-diasporic voices, with high literary standards, meticulous design and international ambition.
A publishing house in the making
The project is taking shape gradually, thanks to a community of authors, rigorous editorial work and a network of dedicated partners.
Rigorous selection
The first collection will be launched on a small scale: a few carefully selected titles, supported over the long term, guided by a clear editorial vision. The aim is to prioritise accuracy, originality and impact over quantity.
Books designed to last
Each publication will be designed as a distinct editorial entity: compelling text, meticulous art direction, complementary print and digital formats, and audio or hybrid options. Books made to be read, shared and treasured.

Building the SUSU community
Years 1-2To bring together authors, readers, publishers, booksellers, critics and partners around a shared ambition: to promote African and Afro-diasporic literature in a challenging, open and vibrant environment.
Organising the publishing house
Years 2-3Assemble the editorial team, refine the editorial direction, select the first articles, and build partnerships with printers, distributors, bookshops, institutions and cultural networks.
Publish and distribute the works
Years 3+Launch the first publications, provide long-term support to authors, and organise the distribution of books to readers in Africa, within the diaspora and internationally.

The first collection will be launched on a small scale. Calls for manuscripts are open to authors from Africa and the African diasporas.
